Azure Cost & Health Review

How a review runs

Fixed price, three business days for most estates, and no access to your Azure tenant. Here is exactly what happens, what I need from you and what you get.

The steps

The timings below are for a Starter Review. Larger estates follow the same steps over the timeline set in your proposal.

  1. 30-minute callOn a video call. I ask about your spend, what’s changed and who owns it. If a review isn’t the right fit, I’ll tell you.
  2. Snapshot and proposalWithin 24 hours: a free one-page Snapshot of what I heard, and a written proposal with a fixed fee.
  3. Engagement letter and depositConfirm by email and I send the Engagement Letter and deposit invoice the same day. Work starts once the letter is signed and the deposit has cleared.
  4. Kick-offWithin one business day: the export guide and an invitation to the Day 1 workshop.
  5. Day 1A 90-minute discovery workshop, and your team sends the exports. Day 1 is the day all required exports arrive, not the day the letter is signed.
  6. Days 2–3Assessment: spend profile, waste sweep, commitment analysis, allocation and governance.
  7. Report deliveredOn Day 3, the final day of a Starter Review.
  8. 60-minute readoutWithin two business days of the report, on a video call, for your team and finance.
  9. One round of clarificationQuestions on the report are answered and any corrections made.
  10. Sign-off and balance invoiceWithin two business days of the readout: a completion and sign-off form, and the balance invoice.

If exports arrive late, the timeline moves by the same number of days.

What I need from you

  • A named point of contact.
  • Stakeholders for the Day 1 workshop, 90 minutes.
  • These exports by the end of Day 1:
    • Cost Management export: actual cost for the last 3 months, daily, as CSV
    • Azure Advisor recommendations: all categories and subscriptions, as CSV
    • Subscription list: name, ID, purpose and owner
    • Resource inventory, including tags, as CSV

Helpful if available: reservation and savings plan utilisation, your Azure Policy compliance summary, your management group structure, and your tagging standard. Screenshots are fine.

A step-by-step export guide is sent on acceptance. Your team can produce everything in under an hour of hands-on time.

No access to your Azure tenant is needed

The review works from the exports your team provides. If you’d rather offer read-only access, that’s optional, never required, and never write access. Please never send passwords or keys.

How your data is handled

  • Exports only. No access to your Azure tenant is needed.
  • Exports are used only for your review and kept in a folder dedicated to your organisation, never mixed with other clients.
  • Analysis is assisted by AI tools under commercial terms that do not permit your data to be used for model training. Identifiers are removed before text analysis wherever practical. I calculate and check every figure.
  • Your exports are deleted 30 days after the executive readout. The final report is kept for our records unless you ask us to delete it.
  • Your organisation is never named publicly, or in any case study, without your written consent. Anything I publish is fully anonymised.

What I don’t do

  • Implement the recommendations, or any remediation
  • Ongoing monitoring
  • Tool deployment
  • Incident response
  • Stakeholder meetings beyond the readout
  • Re-run the assessment after changes are made

I sell no licences, managed services, software or remediation, so the findings have nothing attached to them.

Extra stakeholder sessions or a follow-up review can be quoted separately.

Questions

Do you need access to our Azure tenant?

No. The review runs on exports your team sends, using a step-by-step guide. Read-only access is optional if you prefer it, and never required.

How much of our team’s time does it take?

Under an hour of hands-on time to produce the exports, the 90-minute Day 1 workshop, and the 60-minute readout. Your named contact answers the occasional question in between.

What if you don’t find much?

On a Starter Review, if I identify less than the fee in estimated annual savings, you get the fee back and keep the report. If your estate is well run, the report says so.

Can you fix what you find?

No. That keeps the review independent: I have nothing to gain from what it recommends. Your team, or any supplier you choose, can act on it.

We’re under $30k a month. Is it worth it?

Probably not: at that spend a paid review is unlikely to pay for itself. The DIY Kit gives your team the same method for AUD $497 inc GST.

Find out where your Azure spend is going.

A short call. I'll ask about your spend, what's changed and who owns it. If a review isn't the right fit, I'll tell you.
